Friday was my last day at Pandemic, now I’m just sitting at home chilling out
We recently rescued a kitten from the shelter, and this is the first time I’ve had a cat as a pet. The good news is the kitten has a great personality, she’s really well raised and quite playful and gentle. No biting or scratching!
So yeah just sitting at home with a kitten purring in my lap
Not working for a few days, well I got a bit of an itch to do something useful, so I started writing a book!
Its called Networking for Game Programmers, and since I think that printing out pages of text onto dead trees is so old fashioned, I decided to publish it online.
So far I have written just the first article. It explores the age old question “what type of socket should I use to network my game?”. Its called UDP vs. TCP and by the end of the article, it should be pretty clear which type of socket you should be using!
So yeah, publishing online. How do I get paid for my efforts? Well I really don’t know, and to be honest I’m much more interested in sharing what I know with as many people as possible, so this seems the best way to do it. If you find the articles useful and want to encourage me to write more, a small donation wouldn’t hurt. You’d certainly make my day, since you’d be buying me a lunch during my time off! Did I mention my birthday is coming up on the 11th?

Happy Birthday for the 11th – although as the big LA programmer giving talks to Carmack, you should be buying me lunch.
Here’s a training video for handling your cat:

I don’t know what happened to my RSS reader, but it was late announcing your post. I’m looking forward to reading the networking articles, as your writings have been greatly inspirational for some of my code
Looks like I’m late for the birthday party, but that’s totally due to network lag! But uh, just in case the universe does a time rollback and some catch-up, Happy Birthday!
